Brian and Sara

Dear Birthparents,

Hi! Our names are Brian and Sara.  We have been married since 2002.  Four years ago we thought we would start a family, but things did not go as planned.  We were very sad and trying to come up with a new plan.

During a cleaning spree we stumbled upon a book about adoptions that Brian’s family had given us years ago.  The book featured several adoption stories but one we were interested in featured Brian’s cousin Laurel and her husband David.  They had been unable to start a family and had become involved with birthparents. After the birth of their daughter, both families remained in touch.  Brian and I thought this must be a sign and became interested in seeking out information on adoption.  Since that time we have become interested and excited about the opportunity of adoption!

As adoptive parents we realize the importance of the birthparents and the role they play in the child’s make up and identity.  We admire your choices and sacrifices in allowing your child to be adopted. We realize this has not been an easy choice for you to make.  We hope you realize that you will always have a special place in our hearts and a special place in our child’s life.

About Us

(Sara)  I would describe myself as someone who loves to learn, is energetic, dependable, and has a good sense of humor. I was born in Missouri on New Year’s Eve, but grew up in Nebraska. I went to college and graduated with a degree in Child and Family Development.  After school I worked as a Recreation Therapist at a children’s facility. I enjoyed my job but found my real love of teaching when I had the opportunity to teach living skills.

I decided to go back to school and earn a teaching certificate.  That was five years ago and today someone walking into my classroom could find me helping my students design a pyramid, digging an archaeological dig or doing a Jeopardy Challenge.  I love working with my students and am always looking for a way to bring history alive to my kids!

(Brian) I was born in Kansas City, MO and have lived all of my life Kansas.   When I went to high school I participated in swimming and soccer. I went to Kansas State University and graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.    I graduated from the University of Kansas with a master’s degree in Engineering Management.

How We Met

We met one night at a local pet shelter. We both introduced ourselves and began talking about some of our mutual interests-animals being one of them. We went for a date 3 days later and the following year Brian took me back to the shelter to propose! Since then we always tell friends that we picked up our spouse at the pound!

Our Interests

(Sara)  Some of my interests are reading, cooking, participating in school activities like Student Council, and watching movies.  My favorite book is “Gone with the Wind”.   I enjoy cooking, it is a way to relax and also come up with new eats! At school I am the Student Council advisor and I have a great time working with the kids. The last interest I enjoy is curling up at home with a good movie, Brian and our pets.

(Brian) My interests vary.  They include hobbies like astronomy and watching documentaries on TV.  I like to read, and can be found with my nose in a Harry Potter fantasy book or Golden Compass.   I listen to music on public radio's Hearts of Space, but I also like to crank up the Rush, Foo Fighters, or The Killers, when working out.

(Both)  We both enjoy being active, participating in dance classes, sports, and travel.  We stay active by participating in volleyball tournaments, walks around our neighborhood and taking dance classes.  Lastly, we both enjoy traveling.  We love the ocean, so we have gone to the beaches in Charleston and Savannah.  We have also traveled to Washington DC for Brian’s work. When he is not working we have gone to the Smithsonian museums, the Lincoln Memorial and to the Washington Monument.

Our Pets

Our dog’s name is Bailey. He is a Tibetan terrier that we adopted.  He is quite a character! He will smile to greet you, loves to carry his bunny around and can be counted on to jump on the bed for tummy rubs in the morning. He is a friendly dog and is good with our friends’ children.

Our cat is Geddy.  He is a black and white cat who was adopted as a kitten.  He loves curling up by one of us when we sit down to watch a movie or read. One of his favorite things to do is to play “Fetch”.

Our Home

Our neighborhood is very kid-friendly with all ages of children running around. We have nature trails, parks, and playgrounds around our neighborhood. We have shopping and dining areas around us and hospitals/doctor offices are close by.  We have lived in our neighborhood almost six years and are close to our neighbors.

Conclusion

Brian and I have had a lot of time to think about what it would mean to be parents and how we would raise our children.  We both believe in instilling a sense of family, unconditional love, and support for whatever our child would like to do.  Brian and I are eager to share all we can with a child.

We both realize that we cannot do this without you and your gift of a child.  We look forward to meeting you and discussing how you’d like to be involved in this child’s life.  We hope that you know how excited we are by the process and how ready we are to be parents.  Thank you once again for taking a look at us and take care.
