Travis and Teana

Hello! We are Travis and Teana. We would like to think that we can empathize with you and how you are feeling right now, but we are afraid we would fall far short. What we do know is how much we respect you for choosing an adoption plan for your child. Reaching such a difficult decision is evidence of your great character. Thank you for taking the time to read about us.

About Us

We have now been married almost nine years. We have a strong, faith based marriage, and truly enjoy each other’s company. We have always known that we wanted children, but fertility problems have prevented us from having biological children. After over five years of treatments, we decided that adoption would be the best way to expand our family, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Our lives are centered around our family and our faith. We frequently spend time with family and have very close relationships with our niece and nephews as well as our parents and siblings. Our family time includes an annual camping trip, vacations, birthdays, holidays, and many weekends just hanging out. Special holidays include Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and we can’t wait to share these holidays and establish new traditions with our own children.

Our Faith and Values

We believe that God works in each of our lives, and while we don’t believe that God “predestined” you to bear a child for someone else, we do believe that God can make something wonderful out of both our situations. We know that God will play a part in bringing us children, but we have yet to understand when and how. Perhaps the best way to understand our values is to read part of our family mission statement.

Putting God at the center of our family, we will strive to be loving and cooperative. We will always put each other first. Sharing the responsibilities of life, we are a team; a team that is honest and respectful to each other and our extended families. We will resolve our differences through constant and open communication. We will worship and pray as a family of God.

While this mission statement was written for the two of us as we began our lives together, we expect that it will extend to our children, and even you if you choose to be part of an open adoption. Faith is an important part of our lives, and we look forward to raising children that can choose their own beliefs. Education is also very important to us. Teana has a Master’s degree in Accounting. Travis has an Associate’s degree in Computer Science and will soon complete a Bachelor’s in the same field. We will strongly encourage our children to further their education and provide them the means to do so.

Our Interests

We enjoy several activities together including playing with our two dogs, and hope that our children will enjoy animals as much as we do. We particularly like traveling together and try to take at least one big trip a year. When we can’t get away on a big vacation, we also enjoy camping and try to go several times each year with friends or by ourselves. We are eager to share these travels with our children. Finally, we also enjoy our weekly date nights. These usually involve a trip to the movies or sometimes just a night in, but we always try to make time for each other on this special night. We look forward to continuing this tradition while making sure that we have family nights set aside as well.

About Travis

A couple is a sum of its parts, so we believe that it is important for you to get to know each of us. Travis is best described as easy going. There isn’t a lot that upsets him, he rarely raises his voice, he has a great sense of humor, and he remains patient in difficult situations. Travis is a software developer for a large company in Kansas City. His love of technology is evident in his personal life as well as professionally. He also enjoys fishing and developing his photography skills. He dabbles in other hobbies including learning to play the guitar.

About Teana

Teana is a peacemaker in all facets of life by resolving conflict with love and patience. In addition, she is organized and ensures that things run smoothly at home. She is an accountant at a local company and a part time teacher for an online college. She enjoys helping others with personal finance issues teaching a faith based financial course at church. She also loves music; she was greatly involved with choir and band in high school and continues to find opportunities to share these talents. Her biggest passion, though, would be children. In support of our belief that each child deserves a safe, loving home, Teana volunteers as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). CASA volunteers help represent children in the foster care system in court, to ensure that their voice is heard when their lives are already in upheaval. Her hobbies include scrapbooking and running races around the area.

Our Thoughts on Adoption

We hope that you have enjoyed getting to know us through this letter. We understand you have a lot of choices, and we hope that you find a perfect match during this process. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you if that is your choice. We hope that you choose to remain a part of this child’s life, as you will always be the birth parent. We think an open adoption would be beneficial to everyone, as we recognize the healing that it can bring to birth parents and the impact it can have on the child’s life. However, we would also respect your wishes if you choose a closed adoption. May God bless you in your journey and give you peace.
