A Little Bit About Katy
I was born and raised in St. Joseph, Missouri. I was always very active growing up and played basketball and volleyball in high school, along with being on the dance team. During the summer we enjoyed spending time at the lake boating and water skiing, as well as taking family vacations. After high school, I pursued a degree in Health and Exercise Science from Missouri Western State University and then earned a Master's degree in Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Kansas Medical Center. During this time I found my passion for health and wellness, not only for myself, but for helping others as well. My passion for health, fitness and wellness carries over to my job where I am a wellness coordinator (part-time so I can be home with Ridge) for a local hospital. I'm truly grateful to be in a field that enriches the lives of others by helping them improve their health, well-being and overall quality of life.
It was during my time in college that I began running 5k & half marathon races. All together I have completed six marathons and a few triathlons. Besides fitness and wellness I also enjoy music, attending live concerts and love spending time with my friends and family. However, nothing brings me more joy, love, purpose and life than being a mom and a wife.
A Little Bit About Ryan
I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado along with my two younger brothers Adam and Logan. Growing up we were always playing sports together and it usually was a pick-up game of basketball, football in the front yard, or just playing catch. I played football, basketball and baseball in high school and then went on to play football and baseball at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Being raised in Colorado I found a love and passion for the mountains. I enjoy snow skiing, mountain biking, hiking and camping. Besides sports, I enjoy music, the outdoors and hanging out with friends and family.
During my time at Benedictine College I studied finance and then went on to earn my masters degree in finance from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. I have a great job working for a local bank in their wealth management division and my background in finance lends to working well with our clients. While I love staying active and playing sports, the experience of being of husband and father has been the highlight of my life. The times I cherish the most are when we are together as a family.
A little about Ridge
In 2015 we got the news we've been waiting for ever since we got married! "Your going to have a baby!" Our wonderful birthmother chose us in August and our son was born in December of 2015! Ridge is the happiest baby. He loves to read books, be outside, swing at the park, play with his trucks/cars, and have fun with others kids (especially his cousins). We very much enjoy our open adoption with Ridge's birthmother (and her family) and see her monthly and text weekly.
As a family, we value our time together. We love taking Ridge and our dog (Bell) to the park, exploring different places, taking hikes, and going on family bike rides. Despite being so active we maintain a balance in our life and enjoy reading, listening to live music and spending time outdoors together. Our faith in God is the most important part of our life. We attend church on a weekly basis and spend time each night as a family before dinner thanking God for all He has done. Our intention would be to raise your child in a Christian environment.
We also cherish the time we have with family and friends. Katy's family lives nearby and we regularly spend time together with them. Ryan's family lives in Colorado, but we are always visiting with them and make a couple trips every year to see each other. It is very unique, but our parents and siblings have become close friends and get along extremely well. We have spent many vacations and holidays together and created lifelong memories. We are grateful to be surrounded by such a wonderful support group that cares for us. Our families are thrilled about our decision to adopt again and they will love your child unconditionally.
It has been an amazing journey being parents to Ridge and the thought of having another child and growing our family brings great joy to us. Your child will be brought up in an environment that is filled with unconditional love. We promise to raise your child in a healthy, safe, and supportive home and expose them to all the beautiful things that life has to offer. We understand the importance of your decision and hope this letter and our book will provide a glimpse to our lives and how we will raise your child.
We admire you and your courageous, selfless decision to consider adoption and thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We hope that God will guide you and give you strength on this journey.
Love, Ryan, Katy and Ridge
